Rev. Francis Thom officiated at the double ring service. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Ida L. Smith of Webster City, lowa and the bridegroom is the son of Mr.

and Mrs. Basil Read of Corvallis. Returning from a wedding trip to Southern California, the newlyweds are now at home at Highland View Trailer Court. Brownies Hold Yuletide Party Brownie Girl Scout troop 118 met at the Lincoln school for their Christmas party. The girls played games and made plans for caroling.

They exchanged gifts that were under a decorated Christmas tree. Gay decorated cookies in all shapes, depicting Christmas, were served with dixie cups and by the hostess Mrs. John Stehle, Mrs. H. A.

Cyril Dorsett, guest speaker, will be assisted by Rev. Kenneth Mitchell, minister in charge of the education ministry of the local church. Born In England Rev. Dorsett was born in Manchester, England. He was trained as a Methodist minister in the British conference at Handsworth Theological college, Birmingham.

After working for three years in the London mission, he went as a missionary to Jamaica in the British West Indies, where he remained for nineteen years. During these years Rev. Dorsett served as pastor of a number of churches in different parts of the island, worked as a special evangelist both in Jamaica and other parts of the West Indies, and finally was minister of Coke Memorial church, Kingston, the largest Methodist church in the West Indies, and of great historical interest in that it was established in the lifetime of John Wes- ley. Inter denominational Rev. Dorsett also has had experience in inter denominational work, as he served for some time as secretary of the Jamaica Christian council and also worked on behalf of Church World service.

Joanne Forbes To Attend Game Among the Oregon graduates who have made reservations to go to the Oregon-Ohio State game at the Rose Bowl on New Year's day, aboard the special chartered bus of the famous Santa Barbara Biltmore hotel, is Miss Joanne Forbes, director of Radio KWIL, in Albany. Miss Forbes will be visiting her mother, Mrs. Claire Drew Forbes Walker, in Santa Barbara, her former home, during the holidays. The chartered bus trip to the Rose Bowl gates in Pasadena, has become an annual tradition of the Santa Barbara Biltmore each New Year's Day. Roderick Noonan, general manager, has announced that plans have been completed to have a gala Oregon night on New Year's Eve, also at the hotel, in honor of all University of Oregon graduates in Santa Barbara, and guests at the hotel.

A crown of pearls on lace held the bride's veil of silk illusion and she carried a cascade bouquet of white roses and ivy. Mrs. Rober: Brian, a sister of the bride, served as matron of honor in a gown of pink chiffon over taffeta fashioned with a bodice of matching pink velveteen. An identical frock was worn by Miss Joy Read, sister of the bridegroom, who served as a bridesmaid.

The honor attendants carried pink carnations against a backing of pink angelhair and ti leaves. Flower girl was Miss Janis Smith, niece of bride, who wore a frock of pink dotted swiss with a velveteen cummerbund. Basil Read, father of the bridegroom, served as best man. Groomsman was George Riehl. Ushering the guests to their seats were Chris Jeppsen, John Warner, and John Deichman.

Chris Jeppsen and John Warner also lighted the tapers. For her daughter's wedding, Mrs. Smith wore a gown of an ashes of roses shade with complementary accessories and a corsage of pink carnations. The mother of the bridegroom, Mrs. Read, wore a gown dark of green light green taffeta cape with and dark red accessories.

Her corsage was of red roses. Reception At the reception held at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Delbert Smith, Mrs. Earl Hout presided at the coffee urn and Mrs.

Robert Strayer presided at the punch bowl. Mrs. Dale "irk and Mrs. H. H.

Crowell cut the tiered wedding cake. Mrs. Smith was in charge of the reception. The guest book was circulated by Mrs. John Deichman.

Leaving on a wedding trip to Southern California, the bride wore an aqua knit suit and aqua coat with white fur hat, white gloves and brown accessories. Her corsage was of white roses and ivy. The newlyweds are now at home at Highland View Trailer court in Corvallis. The bridegroom is employed by Chris Jeppsen, architect. The bride attended Blairsburg high school, Blairsburg, Iowa; American Institute of Business in Des Moines and Iowa State college at Ames, Iowa.

The bridegroom is a graduate of North Vernon high school, North Vernon, Indiana, and the University of Cincinnati, cinnati, Ohio. He is a member of Alpha Sig.a Phi and a Mason. White Shrine Holds December Dinner Meeting Cedars of Lebanon Shrine No. 9, Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem met at the Masonic temple in Lebanon Friday evening with a covered dish dinner preceding the meeting. Marie and Conner, Merle worthy priestess, Hennigh, high sociate watchman of shepherds presided in the East.

Presented and escorted to the East were Ethel Phelps, pass worthy high priestess and now district deputy of district No. Josephine Shreve, past worthy high priestess of Willamette shrine, Salem; Vada Whetstone, past worthy high priestess of Cedars of Lebanon No. 9: Dave Phelps, past watchman of shepherds, Friendship shrine, Salem; and Gene Caswell, past watchman of shepherds of Lebanon shrine. Josephine and Dorr Shreve reported on the Northwest Shrine association which met at Great Falls, Montana. Mrs.

Shreve told of the beautiful large building that was built for young people to meet in, the only one of its kind in the United States. It is a community hall for young folks and she said it is always full of youth activities. Vi Olin gave several readings on the program and Merle Hennigh gave a Christmas prayer. After -the meeting gift change was enjoyed around a Christmas tree. The dining room and Shrine room were decorated in keeping with Christmas.

Serving on the refreshment and decorating committee were Mr. and Mrs. Curt Uschman, chairman: John Pearl. Mr. and Mrs.

Jay Pritzen. Mr. and Mrs. Merle Hennigh, Mrs. Frank Patchell, and Mr Mrs.

Laddie Pesek. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin C. Dubbe' of Country Club way announce the engagement of their daughter, Patricia Laverne, to Murray Lloyd Smith, son of Mr.

and Mrs. Cairns K. Smith of Whiteside drive. The announcement was made during the annual Christmas celebration of the Dubbe' and Smith families. Early in the day at the Dubbe' home, the young couple made known their plans.

Later in the morning the families moved to the Smith home to view gifts and to enjoy There the party was joined Adnres Toribio Late in the afternoon, Christmas dinner was served at the Dubbe's. On the napkin before each member of the party was a small gold band inscribed "Fat and Murray." Miss Dubbe' is a student of music at the University of Oregon. Mr. Smith is studying architecture at the same institution. Both of the young people graduated from Corvallis high school and attended Oregon State college for two years.

The wedding is planned for early summer. Over 30 Attend WCTU Yuletide Party Thursday than 30 members and friends of College Hill Woman's Christian Temperance Union met at the home of Mrs. W. B. Anderson, Thursday afternoon for the annual Christmas meeting.

Mrs. John R. Howard led the devotions reading the Christmas story. Rev. A.

E. Bashford voiced the prayer. Mrs. Margaret E. Turano, supervisor of Girls at the Children's Farm Home, told of the many activities at the home during the holidays.

Mrs. Turano presented three high school girls, Frances Long, Neva Long and Mary Mitchell, who sang a group of songs including "Star of the East." "Silver and "Joy to the World," and after the close of the meeting "We Wish You a Merry Christmas." Rev. Walter Frutiger played the accompaniment. Special Skit Four boys, Danny Burright, Jimmie James, Terry Garland and John Brassfield had prepared a skit, "How Much is Mrs. Howard read a letter from Mrs.

Hattie Menzies who spent 40 years as a missionary in India. Mrs. Menzies, now living in Kelso, is 85 and is much in demand as a Bible teacher and speaker. Mrs. Bashford, program chairman, introduced Mrs.

Bert Hibner, who had worked at the United Brethren Mission at Santa Cruz, N.M. Showing pictures of some of the girls and their relatives, Mrs. Hibner told of the influence of the Mission school upon their lives. Mrs. Hibner exhibited many articles of handicraft made by these Indian girls.

Gifts For Children The rooms were gay with holiday decorations including a Christmas tree laden with "money bags" and surrounded with gift packages among which were the pajamas made by College Hill members for the boys of one of the cottages. Refreshments were served during the social hour by Cummings, Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Bashford and Mrs. Miller.

Elmer J. Hughes of Berkeley. The wedding was solemnized at St. Johns Presbyterian church in Berkeley on Friday night, November 29, at 8 o'clock. Rev.

James Comfort Smith, pastor of the church, officiated. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a wedding gown of white silk organza fashioned waltz length with a full flared skirt. The fitted bodice featured a wide cut-out neckline embroidered with pearls and length sleeves. A jeweled pearl coronet hat held her shoulder-length veil and she carried a white Bible mounted with white roses and stephanotis and tied with white streamers and bows. Matron of Honor Matron of honor was Mrs.

William A. Hamann Jr. of Berkeley, who wore a gown of baby blue taffeta fashioned with a scooped neckline with an inset of darker blue as inset in the skirt. Her hat was of baby blue velvet with a matching short veil and she carried an old fashioned bouquet of pink baby rosebuds and blue forget-me-nots edged in pink carnations and tied with pink satin ribbon streamers. The mother of the bride, Mrs.

Lukens wore a gown of royal blue chiffon with white hat, matching royal blue shoes, and white accessories. Her corsage was of white orchids. The mother of the bridegroom, Mrs. Hughes, wore a dress of interlude blue wool with matching hat. Her accessories were of dark blue and her corsage of orchids.

Best Man Ronald Long of Berkeley, California served as best man. Ushers were William A. Hamann Jr. of people lose weight by teaching them about proper nutrition. She maintains that keeping a record of all calorie intake can be one of the dieters greatest aids.

If the dieter backslides, she should be honest with herself and write it down on the record. Berkeley and Dick Robbins, ensign in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Alameda, Calif. Gary Lukens. brother of the bride, and Hughes, brother of the bridegroom, lighted the candles.

Organ music, played by Robert Webber, included the following selections: "Larghetto" an aria from the Fifth Concerto of Handel, "Adagio" by Mozart, aria by Verachini, "Sarabande" by Jennings and Perfect Love" by Barnby. White chrysanthemums were used throughout the decorations for both the wedding and the reception which followed. The tiered wedding which was topped by a miniature white dove, was cut and served by Mrs. John Geijsbeek, aunt of the bride; Mrs. George Oliver, an aunt of the bride; and Miss Cassandra Handford.

Mrs. Harold Chance, an aunt of the bride. presided at the punch bowl. Miss Bertha Landauer served coffee. Mrs.

Nona Baker took care of the gifts and Miss Judy Hughes passed the guest book. Corvallis Guests Among the out-of-town guests who signed the guest book were Mrs. George Oliver and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Chance of Corvallis; Mr.

and Mrs. John Geijsbeek of Corning, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Worrell and daughter, Wendy, Miss Judy Thomas, Miss Marjorie Thomas, and Mr. and Mrs.

Bert A. Hughes. The newlyweds honeymooned at Highlands Inn, Carmel, California, returning to Berkeley to make their home at 1439 Carleton Street in that city. The bride chose a beige suit with a mink collar, champagne hat and gloves and black' accessories for her goingaway ensemble. The bride is an employee of Provident Mutual Life Insurance company of Philadelphia at their Berkeley agency.

She is a 1954 graduate of Corvallis high school and a graduate of Armstrong Business college in Berkeley. Graduates In January The bridegroom is a senior at San Francisco State college and will graduate in January. On completion of his studies in January, he will receive his commission in the United States Navy as ensign for three years.
