View Drive, said the 4-H lamb was -found dead in a nearby field. It had been chewed about the throat. Sheriff C. E. Ream said there had been a number of reports of dogs chasing sheep in the county.

Orders have been issued to kill any dog found chasing sheep or chickens, he said. Mangan To Speak Mangan, area engineer for the Bureau of Reclamation, will speak at Oregon State University Wednesday at 4 p.m. in Cordley Hall 135 as part of the special Water Resources Seminar now underway this term. Mangan will discuss trends in irrigation development in Oregon, including improved practices and efficiency, 'WHITE COLLAR' WOMEN NEW YORK (UPI) Over the past few decades, white collar employment of women has been growing twice as fast as that of men, the Institute of Life Insurance reports.

In 1940 women held only one out of three white collar jobs in the United States. Today they are just a few percentage points behind the men. Archie DeVoe Dies; Funeral Wednesday Archie F. DeVoe, a resident of Corvallis for the past 12 years, died in a local hospital Sunday. The son of Mr.

and Mrs. Frank DeVoe he was born July 1, 1880, at Virginia City, Nev. At an early age he moved to Santa Cruz. He later moved to San Francisco where he lived for several years and then moved to Spokane, Wash. where he was employed by the North Pacific as an express messenger.

He moved to Portland and was married there to Florence Carrick in December. 1940. The couple moved to Longview, Wash. in 1941 and to Seaside Oregon in 1943 where they ran a motel until coming to Corvallis in 1952. They owned the Riverside Motel here until his retirement in 1957.

He was a member of Portland, Lodge 55 A.F. A.M., and Corvallis Elks Lodge. Besides his wife he is survived by one niece Eunice Holter of Spokane. Funeral services will be held in the McHenry Funeral Home Wednesday at 2 p.m. with Rev.

Francis Thom officiating. Burial will be in the Oaklawn Memorial Cemetery. Corvallis Lodge 14: A.F. A.M. will conduct Masonic rites.

-It's the British against the field in tonight's Academy Awards with "Tom Jones" expected to win the best picture award. Almost half the performers nominated for the 36th annual Oscar awards were Britons, including three nominees for best actor: Albert Finney, Richard Harris and Rex Harrison. Dapper Jack Lemmon will be master of ceremonies for the two-hour show at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. Some 2,500 celebrities were to be on hand for the motion picture wingding which held such contrasts as "Cleopatra," the most expensive movie ($40 million), competing against "Lilies of the Field," one of the least expensive at $450,000. The English production of the Henry Fielding classic, "Tom (Jones," led all others with 10 nominations.

Its star, Albert Finney, was favored" to win best actor.
